Dear Parents
I wanted to start with a thank you to the many families who have been into school over the course of this week. We have enjoyed Pre-School and Reception, Year 5, Year 8 and Year 9 coffee mornings and the Junior Welcome Evening. We know how busy family life is, and we are very grateful to you all for giving so much time up to come into school and meet with the teaching team. These opportunities to build relationships, share information and develop an understanding of individual needs and expectations are so important to enable the school to get the very best outcomes for each and every pupil at Cranford. Our aim is to ensure that every young person from Pre-School to Year 13 is happy in school, feels known and supported and fulfils their individual potential! The foundation of this is a strong relationship between school and home and we are very fortunate as a school to have such a supportive and engaged parent body.

Weekly Sports Round Up!
It has been particularly exciting to see the start of our busy programme of Autumn fixtures! The energy from pupils and staff alike has set a fantastic tone for the term ahead.
A special congratulations to our Under 18 Girls’ Hockey team who began their campaign with a well-earned 4-2 victory against strong opposition from Bradfield College. The team showed excellent composure and teamwork throughout, with standout performances in both attack and defence. It was a promising start to what we hope will be a very successful season.
Elsewhere, we have kicked off the term with some brilliant results across the school including several teams securing impressive wins against Elstree, Crosfields and Bradfield in both Hockey and Football. Well done to all our teams for their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship! Thank you to all staff, coaches, and supporters for making it such a positive week of sport!
Looking ahead, we have a packed Autumn of sport ahead of us, with something approaching 120 fixtures scheduled for the next three months involving pupils from Year 3 to Year 13. The PE department offer an inclusive approach, with sport for all and the opportunity for everyone to represent the school in teams, whilst also fostering pathways to excellence for our most committed players. We are delighted that many of our pupils are representing county and regional teams in various sporting disciplines.
At the heart of this is the development of a positive relationship with sport, health and well-being. We want our pupils to look forward to their PE & Games lessons, to feel included and stretched and to develop their self-confidence, teamwork and leadership skills through this.
Just a quick reminder that information on forthcoming fixtures for your son or daughter’s year group can be found by accessing SOCS or via the school website where you can see all the forthcoming fixtures- we hope this is helpful for diary planning this Autumn!
Junior School Science - what’s coming up?
This September saw the opening of our new Junior Science Lab. The Junior pupils have enjoyed learning in the new laboratory and have so far been introduced to lab equipment, the Scientific Technique and how to light the Bunsen burners. Next week they will be enjoying carrying out practical’s; from making and measuring craters on the moon to thinking about how a Viking would stay warm! We are excited to see how the new lab inspires our younger learners!
Save the Date!
We have some important Coffee Morning and Information events coming up this term and I just wanted to flag these again for families. We very much hope to be able to welcome as many families as possible to these events to discuss these important topics:
- Wednesday 8 October - Relationships and Sex Education Parent Information and Coffee Morning (8:35-9:15)
- Tuesday 14 October - Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging Parent Coffee Morning – 8:30-9:00
This week in school
I hope this small selection of pictures from the last few days give you a flavour of a brilliant week in school!
