Dear Parents
The final weeks of term always provide a wonderful reminder of the breadth of talent, energy and opportunity that exists across Cranford, and this week has been no exception.
On Tuesday evening, I had the privilege of attending our LAMDA Showcase, which was quite simply outstanding. Across the evening, pupils from Year 4 through to Year 10 demonstrated an exceptional array of talent, confidence and creativity. What struck me most was not simply the quality of the performances, but the growing sophistication, maturity and sensitivity with which pupils approached their work. Whether delivering dramatic monologues, performing poetry or presenting scripted pieces, our pupils showed courage, commitment and genuine artistry.
The performing arts occupy a central place within life at Cranford. They help young people develop confidence, communication skills, empathy, resilience and self-expression. They teach pupils to take risks, work collaboratively and find their voice. The showcase was a powerful reminder of why these opportunities matter so much and why we remain committed to ensuring that music, drama and the performing arts continue to flourish across the school. The future of performing arts at Cranford is undoubtedly bright.
Sport has also provided much to celebrate. Congratulations to our U15 boys’ cricket team, who finished an impressive third at the ISA Tournament this week. This was a significant achievement against strong opposition and reflected the skill, determination and teamwork shown throughout the season.
Our U16 tennis squad has also enjoyed a highly successful week. Competing in a hard-fought tournament hosted at Winchester College, the team produced an excellent series of performances to secure qualification for the National Semi-Finals. We wish them every success as they progress to the next stage of the competition.
More broadly, thank you and congratulations to every pupil who has represented Cranford this week, whether on the sports field, stage, court, track or in countless other activities. Participation, commitment and teamwork remain at the heart of our school community.
We now look forward to both Junior and Senior Sports Days next week. With valuable House points at stake, I suspect the competition will be both spirited and fiercely contested. Above all, however, Sports Day remains one of the great celebrations of school life, bringing together pupils, staff and families in support of one another and creating memories that last long beyond the finish line.
Thursday also saw our Junior School transformed into a galaxy far, far away as pupils enjoyed a truly special Star Wars-themed Creative Arts Curriculum Day. From the moment pupils arrived, there was a palpable sense of excitement across the school. Throughout the day, children immersed themselves in a wide range of creative and hands-on activities, including face painting, designing their own Star Wars characters, creating lightsabers and producing a variety of space-themed artwork and crafts.

Importantly, the day was about far more than dressing up. Pupils explored STEM concepts through themed science activities, engaged in creative design challenges and took part in curriculum-linked learning experiences that brought imagination and learning together in memorable ways. Adding to the excitement was a surprise visit from a mystery Stormtrooper, which delighted pupils and staff alike.
Alongside the fun, our cake sale in support of Oxford Children’s Hospital was another wonderful success. I am grateful to everyone who contributed, baked, donated or supported the event. It was heartening to see our community come together in support of such an important cause.
Please do take a moment to review our week in pictures here.
Finally, I would like to thank the many members of our Cranford community who have already responded so positively to the launch of our Cranford Futures Internship Programme. The response has been both overwhelming and deeply encouraging. One of the greatest strengths of Cranford has always been the generosity, expertise and willingness of our community to support young people, and that spirit has been evident once again.
The opportunities being offered will help pupils gain invaluable insight into a wide range of professions and industries, broadening horizons and helping them make informed decisions about future pathways. My sincere thanks to everyone who has already volunteered their support. If you feel you may be able to offer an internship, workplace experience, mentoring opportunity or professional insight, we would be delighted to hear from you.
As we move towards the end of another busy and successful year, I continue to be enormously grateful for the contribution of our pupils, staff and families. Together, they make Cranford the vibrant, ambitious and supportive community that it is.
With best wishes
James Raymond
