Junior book fair

Dear Parents

Firstly, thank you to all the parents who have come into school this week. It was lovely to welcome so many parents from Years 1-4 to our coffee morning and open classroom events on Tuesday and Wednesday. We know the children were so excited to be able to share what they have been doing in school this term and show their families around their classrooms.

We also enjoyed a busy Year 8 Parents’ Evening earlier in the week, providing the perfect opportunity to touch base with families at this mid-way point in the year. We really value the support shown by parents on these occasions and Chef Paul and his team have kept us well-supplied with tea, coffee and biscuits throughout!

Nursery and Reception have a special visit!

Our Nursery and Reception pupils were overjoyed on Monday, when they were treated to a special visit from Thames Valley Police. This time, it was the Police’s turn to be interrogated, as the children, exploding with excitement and curiosity, asked lots of questions and gave the Officers quite a grilling! They were even more excited when they were given a tour around the outside and inside of the Police Van. However, the highlight had to be when the Police Officers sounded the siren on the van and switched on the flashing lights.

Box Clever Returns!

We were pleased to welcome back the talented team from Box Clever on Monday, this time for Year 9 pupils, showcasing a brilliant adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The performance was electric, featuring clever staging, immense energy and bringing this well-known love story into the 21st century. Followed by an interactive workshop, the adaptation really helped deepen pupils’ understanding of the plot, provoking thoughtful discussion from everyone!

Year 2 Trip to the Story Museum

Hot on the heals of World Book Day, Year 2 continued this week to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of literature, enjoying an excellent morning at the Story Museum yesterday. The children took part in an interactive storytelling workshop where they had to use objects and pretend they were portals transporting them to another world. They got creative designing some of their own comic strip illustrations in the style of the Beano magazines, and entered the world of Narnia, Alice's Wonderland and played Pooh Sticks in the Hundred Acre Wood. Not bad for a day’s work!

Year 11 History Trip

Saving the best until last (anyone would think I was a History Teacher!), our Year 11 History students enjoyed a revision day in the pleasant surroundings of Howbery Park in Wallingford on Thursday. Pupils were based in the historic manor house and covered content on Elizabethan England, the Cold War, and the Migration and British Empire courses. Led by Mr Beavan, Head of History, it was a really useful day to consolidate writing skills and revise content from last year. The girls worked really hard and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity!

With best wishes,

Dr James Raymond
