Our Junior Day of Discovery 2024

Thank you to all of the families, exhibitors and staff who attended today's Junior Day of Discovery. It was lovely to come together as a community and celebrate STEM and the world of great inventions. A huge thank you to Dame Dr Maggie who took the time to come out and help inspire yet another generation of curious minds who want to dream big.

Saturday, 9 November we will open our doors to the public (9am-12pm) and transform the school into a celebration of all things under the banner: Great Inventions! This annual community event hosted by our Junior School, endeavours to inspire children about the wider world with practical hands-on application of real world STEM principles. Learning can be fun!

Parents and families from Nursery to Year 6 are welcome to join in the adventure from Wacky Experiments, Amazing Inventions, Hot Air Balloon Rides and much more.

Guest speaker Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock

We are delighted to confirm that our guest speaker for Cranford's Junior Day of Discovery 2024 is the celebrated Space Scientist and Broadcaster: Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock. Children and families will have the opportunity to hear her speak about stars, planets, black holes and life in space. Read more about Dame Dr Maggie.

Thank you to all of the families who have booked tickets to this year's Junior Day of Discovery we shall see you this Saturday. Junior Day of Discovery will return next year so we welcome families back in 2025!


Junior Day of Discovery 2024: Great Inventions!

On behalf of the charity Unicef, we will be fundraising throughout the morning. UNICEF provides more children with clean water, life-saving therapeutic food and vaccines, education and protection from violence than any other humanitarian organisation. The charity works in more than 190 countries and territories and in the world’s toughest places, to reach children and young people in greatest need.

We kindly ask that visitors make a donation upon arrival at the welcome desk. Cash payments are accepted. Thank you!

Following guidelines, this is predominantly an outdoor event and we ask that visitors dress accordingly.

The event takes place from 9am – 12pm noon

What time do the gates open?

Gates will open at 9am.

TICKETS:

Is this event free?

Yes, this is a free event, although we do kindly ask that visitors make a voluntary donation to our chosen charity Unicef.

Where can I order tickets from?

This event is now SOLD OUT. Tickets are available to order via Eventbrite on our website or via the link below. Tickets are allocated as one ticket per person, including children so please order enough tickets for each member of your party to have one.

Who can order tickets?

This is a public event open to all families and visitors are welcome to attend the event whether they have children attending Cranford or not.

GETTING HERE:

How do I get there/where do I park?

Cranford School is located in Moulsford, Oxfordshire. We will first be offering event car parking at Crabbe Barn, Moulsford, Reading Road A329 in OX10 9EX (500 metres north of the main school site) Please follow traffic signs and attendees. A free shuttle minibus service will be operating throughout the morning from this parking area. Alternatively, the event area is a short walk from the carpark.

THE SITE

Is the site suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs?

Yes, we openly welcome any families with pushchairs or wheelchairs to attend. If any disabled visitor needs advance information or assistance please contact us at office@cranfordschool.co.uk and we’ll do our best to help or advise.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on a lead and remain under control. Owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Please be aware that during the event, there may be loud noises from vehicles.

Is there disabled parking?

Yes, there is designated disabled parking. Please contact us in advance at office@cranfordschool.co.uk if you require disabled parking and we will contact you with more details. Please display your blue badge at the gate.

Are there toilet facilities?

Toilets will be available to visitors throughout the site, with portaloos also available at the front of the school. Handicap facilities are also available.

FOOD & DRINK

Is there somewhere to eat and drink?

Yes, free coffee, tea and snacks will be available for families on site as well as a selection of vendors with hot food and drink available for purchase.

GENERAL

Where do charity proceeds go?

All funds collected will go to the charity Unicef: helping bring humanitarian aid to children across the world. We welcome your generosity.
