Dear Parents

Applauding our very own revolting children!

There have been so many highlights this week, but I must start with the Year 7 and 8 production of ‘Matilda’. I am not sure words serve justice to the brilliance of all the cast and crew, who put on two epic shows on Monday and Tuesday evening at The Cornerstone Theatre in Didcot. The audience sat throughout, spellbound by solos fit for the West End stage and songs from a dynamic ensemble, who delivered verses with such vitality. The staging was incredible, ably managed by the backstage team, and the entire cast performed with joy, clearly relishing in the moment of being part of something so brilliant. Miss Trunchball was truly terrifying and highly amusing with it, as was the overly creepy Cook! The humour throughout was fabulous, leaving the audience laughing out loud on many occasions. There were so many stand-out performances, showcasing incredible talent and we are very proud of all the performers. I am not sure I will get over the cake-eating scene, and don’t think Josh will forget that too easily either. However, the most notable bit for me was the encore, where the cast gathered to sing ‘Revolting Children’, applauding and cheering each other on with the biggest smiles radiating from the stage. It summed up beautifully, the uniqueness of what it means to be a pupil at Cranford. Please do take a moment to look at the photos from Matilda. Well done to you all; if this is what you are producing at this stage of your Cranford career, we can’t wait to see what is next!

Sports Day 2024

We have had two incredible Sports Days this week. On Wednesday, our Junior Pupils enjoyed an action-packed day, taking part in a range of track and field events. Pre-School, Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils started things off in the morning, followed by Key Stage 2 in the afternoon, enjoying the sunshine that helpfully made an appearance and of course the obligatory post-race ice cream! We were so proud of all the pupils, whose energy, enthusiasm and sportsmanship made for an unforgettable Junior Sports Day, along with a very competitive Heads of House versus staff relay and Mr VJ’s dynamic sprint to the finish in the egg and spoon!

On Thursday, it was time for the Senior pupils to showcase their athleticism. There were some highly competitive events, with members of each house showing fierce loyalty to team members. War paint on, the cheers permeated the ground for every event, as our pupils encouraged their friends and house members in all year groups. There were some outstanding performances, including several sports day records broken! The day ended with a staff and Year 12 in a combined house relay event.

Year 3 & 4 Swimming Gala

In other sporting news, our Year 3 and 4 pupils raised the roof of the swimming pool today in the House Swimming Gala. There were a few nerves, but equal levels of excitement, as the pupils braced themselves for a series of races. It was a seriously close competition, with only one point in it, but Green House triumphed! After all that energy, our pupils seriously enjoyed a well-deserved Chef Paul cookie post-race!
