The week started with huge excitement first thing on Monday, when Nursery pupils were visited by The Police as part of their topic on ‘People Who Help Us’. The awe and elation was evident on each and every face as the children explored the police car and chatted to the Police. The visit was made even more memorable when the children were allowed a demonstration of the siren and the Police even helped Nursery children launch an investigation to help them find Elmer the Elephant!

The Year 6 pupils have also embroiled themselves in investigative work this week. Tapping into their excellent skills in Science, they have had to solve a crime based on a report they found on their desks on Thursday morning. They excelled, all of them proving themselves worthy detectives using scientific methods to unravel the crime!

On Wednesday evening, it was lovely to see parents at our virtual Year 11 Post Mocks Parents’ evening. This is a vital contact point for parents and teachers in the run up to the GCSE examinations as school provides the final stages of support to help each and every member of Year 11 achieve their absolute best. The group are working exceptionally hard and we are delighted with the progress they are all making and look forward to seeing the results of their efforts later in the summer!

Also this week, our Year 13 students have been making their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) presentations. The EPQ is a highly regarded additional qualification taken in tandem with A levels and consists of a 5000-word essay on a subject selected by the student and a presentation too! Our students presented on a range of complex topics with such eloquence, demonstrating exceptional structure and content and wonderful enthusiasm. Well done to all the Year 13 students who have undertaken this significant challenge, showing a huge level of independence that will undoubtedly serve them incredibly well as they take next steps to university!

Finally this week, today we say goodbye to Mrs Jane Cuffe, who has been a member of Cranford staff for an undeniably significant 18 years! Starting as a Receptionist, Jane has held a myriad of roles, most recently as a Facilities Manager. As such, she has been the scaffolding behind and the realisation of many significant projects for Cranford, including the Sports Hall, Sixth Form and new Nursery. The school owes her huge thanks and we wish Jane all the best for new ventures.
