Double Triumph in Youth Speaks 2017

Public speaking continues to be a real strength here at school, as was demonstrated on Monday night as four Cranford House teams entered the annual Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition.
Held at Blessed Hugh Faringdon School in Reading, this first round of the national competition saw teams of three from Years 8, 9 and 10 doing battle in the Intermediate (age 11 to 13) and Senior (age 14 to 17) categories. Not only did our pupils easily hold their own against teams fielding Year 13 pupils, but our Year 10s triumphed in the Senior category with their talk on Violence and Video Games and our Year 8s won the Intermediate section, with their answers to the question, Do Manners Matter?
Miss Robson, Head of English, commented, “I was incredibly proud of the industrious and independent attitude our girls had to all aspects of this competition. Their performances were eloquent, intellectual and amusing. One Rotarian commented that he couldn’t remember seeing better speakers than our Cranford House pupils.”
Very many congratulations to Ella, Nerea and Catrin who won the Senior category, to Alana, Grace and Anna who triumphed in the Intermediates and to the rest of our Senior pupils who took part and acquitted themselves brilliantly. We look forward to seeing the two winning teams’ progress as they move into the next round of the competition.
