Hard Times for Year 6

Year 6 travelled back in time to the Victorian era thanks to a trip to Reading Museum.
Cranford House was a sea of flat caps and pinafores as Year 6 pupils arrived ready to be transported back in time with a trip to Reading Museum's Victorian Schoolroom. Decked out in some superb Victorian costumes, they experienced the rigours and routine of the period's classroom, writing with dip pens and ink and blotters, using slate boards for Mathematics and completing an exercise drill. Some pupils even had to wear the dunce cap!
Later in the day, pupils also learnt about the work children were expected to fulfill in Victorian times. They discovered what it would have been like to work in a large household and tried their hands at domestic tasks such as lighting fires, before exploring roles such as a maid, a chimney sweep or a footman.
The visit really brought the pupils' learning in the classroom to life and all agreed that they are extremely happy to have been born in this day and age! Click here for more photos from the day.
