Areas covered by the course include Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sport and Society, Exercise, Physiology and Biomechanics, Sport Psychology and Sport and Society and Technology in Sports.

A-level PE is an engaging course that enables students to study Physical Education (PE) in an academic setting, enabling them to critically analyse and evaluate their physical performance and apply their experience of practical activity in developing their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

How is it assessed?

Two written papers, one for each component of the course as below, form 70% of the overall grade.

A coursework element of 30% allows learners to explore an activity in detail as a performer or coach, chosen from a wide variety of sporting activities. Learners will also analyse and evaluate performance in a chosen activity.

Which skills or qualifications do I need?

Students will require a Grade 6 in GCSE Physical Education. A good pass in Biology GCSE is also desirable.

University or employment prospects?
